Albert Louis Kompus Jr.

Albert Louis Kompus Jr. was born to Albert Louis Kompus and Frances Josephine (Holub) Kompus on June 9, 1949, at McCook, Nebraska and grew up on a farm east of Atwood, Kansas. Al passed away at a hospice center in Panama City, Florida on December 26, 2025, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Al graduated from Atwood High School in 1967. He married Deborah Kay Horinek at Sacred Heart Church in Atwood on October 5, 1974.

He leaves behind his son, Nathan R. (Colleen) Kompus, Albuquerque, New Mexico; sister Frances “Fran” (Dennis) Allacher of McCook, Nebraska; two brothers-in-law, Doug (Deanna) Horinek, David “Weiner” (Rose) Horinek; one sister-in-law, Diane (Mike) Kugler and special friends Greg and Tom.

He was preceded in death by his wife Deborah (2015), parents Albert (1982) and Frances (2023), his father-in-law LeRoy Horinek, stepmother in-law LaRue Horinek and mother-in-law Lesta (Leroy) Jaggers.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 11:00 am at rural St. Cyril and Methodius Cemetery, northwest of Atwood in Rawlins County, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St. Cyril and Methodius Cemetery upkeep in care of Sacred Heart Church, 508 N. Railroad Ave., Atwood, KS 67730.
