Cherrie W. Clark

Cherrie W. Clark, a devoted nurse, cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at home in Oakley, on August 10, 2026, just 10 weeks shy of her 90th birthday. Born on October 30, 1936, in rural Meriden, Kansas, to Alfred and Edna (Rupe) Thomas, Cherrie was a voracious reader and lived a life marked by dedication to her family and her Lord. She was baptized in St. John’s Lutheran Church, Topeka, Kansas, and confirmed in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Oakley.

Cherrie graduated from Oakley High School in 1953, and was married to Robert L. Clark on May 22, 1953. Ten days later Robert shipped to Korea. They were reunited in November, 1954. To this union was born Roberta, Kathleen, David, and Karen.

Cherrie completed nursing school at Fort Hays State University with her B.S.N. Degree. Her professional career was a testament to her commitment to caring for others. She served as a registered nurse at Logan County Hospital for many years, where her superior bedside manner and heartfelt compassion earned her the admiration of patients and colleagues alike. Prior to nursing, Cherrie worked at the Farmers State Bank and at Monument Elementary School.

Cherrie’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. As a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, she taught Sunday School and Catechism classes, and found friendship and purpose.

She enjoyed traveling the world, visiting National Parks in the US, and the countries of Egypt, China, Russia, and India.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 64 years, Robert L. (Bob); and her daughter, Kathleen.

Cherrie leaves behind a loving family: her daughters Roberta (Bob) Stocksdale of Melbourne, FL, and Karen (Paul Deepe) Hill of Winfield, KS; and her son David (Tracy) of Monument, KS; sister Cista (Alan) Leonard, Anaheim, CA, and brother Rockey (Sharon) Thomas, Eagle, ID; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
