Cheryl Lynn Wolf Powell passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 17, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 12, 1949, in Colby, Kansas, to Dale Allen Wolf and Thelma Larie Wolf. She grew up in Colby and was a proud Eagles cheerleader.
On June 23, 1968, in Colby, Kansas, Cheryl married the love of her life, Dennis Darrell Powell. In July 1976, Dennis opened a State Farm scratch agency in Arkansas City, Kansas, where Cheryl proudly served as his first team member. She worked alongside him with dedication until his retirement in 2011, after which she became an integral part of her daughter's team.
Cheryl was a devoted wife, a proud mother of Heather and TJ, and an even prouder grandmother of Elizabeth Darbe and Tyler. She was well known for her love of animals-often saying she loved dogs more than people-but her family and friends knew her fierce and loyal love was unmatched when it came to those she held dear. She never met a stranger, always extended a helping hand, and had a gift for making everyone feel welcome.
A passionate Kansas Jayhawks basketball fan, Cheryl never missed a chance to cheer on her team. Those who called during a game, or shared her enthusiasm for Kansas basketball, were often greeted with her spirited, "Rock Chalk, Jayhawk!"
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Dennis; her daughter, Heather; her son, TJ; her granddaughter, Elizabeth Darbe; her grandson, Tyler; and her brother Bobby.
