Dale Vernon Plumisto (Uncle Buddy, Uncle Buck), died April 9, 2026, in Colby surrounded by family and friends. Dale was born in Raton, NM on February 16, 1962. He was a beloved son to Mitchell and Lois (Withers) Plumisto.
After Dale’s already large family planted roots in Colby, they acquired many extended family members. He had a love for hunting with some great dogs that joined him over the years. He worked hard in the carpentry business all his life, working under Jim Carney and Jerome Maznec. Learning from them and teaching them a thing or two along the way.
In addition to his career in carpentry, he was a member of the Colby Honor Guard. Dale also had experience as a part-time deputy for the Sheriff’s Office, as well as a jailer. He retained an abundance of random facts. No matter the question, he would surprise you by knowing the answer. Whether he read it or watched it, he retained it.
Many may remember Dale for walking everywhere. Whether it be to a job site, or whoever was on his dinner rotation that night, his shoes have seen many miles. Others may remember him by playing the vampire in the coffin on Halloween, or his love for loud rock music. Maybe by the curly Q hair his mother used to fix on the top of his head as a baby. Possibly a remembrance of a Billy Jack phase. Of all the memories and stages his family remember, the lifelong Kansas City Chief’s fan is number one. A memory of going to the Chiefs Superbowl parade just a few years ago was long awaited. He planted the seed of Chief’s Kingdom in the family, and it has been growing ever since.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Melvin Phillips, George Phillips, Glenn Phillips, and Charles Plumisto and his sister Debbie Phillips Blackhart.
He is survived by his siblings, Marsha (Bill) Long, Michael (Louann) Plumisto, Mickey Miller, Charlene Plumisto, Dwayne (Becky) Plumisto, Cathy (Ross) Carney, Lois (Kurtis) Armstrong, Kelly Marker, Roy Plumisto, Sonnie (Deborah) Plumisto, Lynette Plumisto and David (Heather) Plumisto, as well as countless nieces, nephews and family.
Dale will be missed by all, but along with Chief’s Kingdom he is now a part of God’s Kingdom.
A graveside service will take place at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2026, at Beulah Cemetery, Colby. In lieu of Flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and mailed in care of Baalmann Mortuary, PO Box 391, Colby, KS 67701
