James Griffin

James “Jim” Eugene Griffin, 63, of Colby, died Saturday, July 3, 2021, at Swedish Medical Center, in Englewood, CO. He was born September 14, 1957, in Colby, KS, to Jay and Margene Griffin. Jim graduated from Colby High School in 1976 and enrolled in the Goodland Vocational Technical School, for auto mechanics. He then joined the Kansas National Guard. Jim was deployed several times over seas and served in Dessert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He received a ranking of E6 and retired after 31 years of service. Jim then returned home and started Griffin Plumbing, Heating and Cooling, a family business that included his sons and grandsons. Jim was a member and served as post commander for both the American Legion and V.F.W. He always had encouraging words and saw the best in people.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and son Eric.

He is survived by his wife Kacy, of Colby; children, Amanda (Dustin) Trew, of Colby, Greg (Emily) Griffin, of Colby, Mitch (Carrie) Griffin, of Kansas City and Kiana Griffin, of Colby, KS; siblings, Janette Clapp (fiancé Dave Schissler), of McCook, NE, Janice (Leo) Bjurstrom, of Leoti, KS, Jane (Kerry) Maddy, of Altus, OK, Jerri Griffin, of Colby, JoAnn (Mark) Linnell, of Goddard, KS, Janell Griffin, of Colby and Jeff (Jennifer) Griffin, of Colby; father and mother-in-law, Richard and Judy Epp, of Colby; brothers-in-law, Paul (Leah) Jackson, of Kansas City, KS, Keni (Vanessa) Epp, of New York, NY and Kody (Kelsey) Epp, of Hoxie, KS; sister-in-law Kristi Epp, of Newton, KS; ex-wife Joyce Towey and son Tim Towey, both of Colby; 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby. Funeral Service is 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 8, 2021, at the Berean Church, Colby, with burial in Beulah Cemetery, Colby. The service will be streamed on openspacessports.com. Memorials may be made to the American Legion, V.F.W. or the Kansas Soldiers’ Home, at Fort Dodge, and sent in care of Baalmann Mortuary, PO Box 391, Colby, KS 67701.
