Jane S (Sramek) Lewis, 84, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, June 21, 2025.
She was born January 6, 1941, in McCook, Nebraska, the daughter of Lewis Albert and Agnes Stephanie (Kopriva) Sramek. She was a 1958 graduate of Atwood High School and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from University of Kansas.
She was baptized at St. John’s Catholic Church in Atwood and later a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Atwood.
Jane married the honorable Robert J. Lewis, Jr. on September 2, 1961, in Atwood. He preceded her in death on May 3, 2004. Survivors include her children, son Robert Jeffrey Lewis, of Lavallette, NJ and his wife, Vittoria Anne Pontieri-Lewis; her daughter Kathryn Anne Welch of Topeka and her husband, William Charles Welch; six loving grandchildren, Robert Jeffrey (Gerianne) Lewis, II, Abigail Jayne (Cody) Brown, Samantha Lisa Lewis, Olivia Kathryn (Colby) Woodland, Delaney Jane Taylor and Ava Marie Welch; her great-grandson, Robert Jeffrey Lewis III; and her sister-in-law, Margaret Jane Lewis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Lisa Lewis on September 28, 2001; and her brother, John W. Sramek.
Jane was a devoted, loving Mom and greatly enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. She also loved dogs, having had several throughout her life that were as devoted to her as she was to them. Jane could always be found with her dog at her side. She also enjoyed water color painting, cooking and collecting cook books, and creating flower arrangements, working at Porterfield’s Flowers & Gifts in Topeka for a time. While living in Atwood, she contributed to the community in several ways. She was part of the restoration project for the Jayhawk Theater, specifically helping to design and restore the Jayhawk marquee in front of the theater. Jane also assisted the Atwood ambulance as an EMT for a period of time, and she was a long-time member of P.E.O.
Visitation will be from 5-7 pm, followed by a rosary at 7 pm on Thursday June 26, 2025, at Baalmann Mortuary, 109 N 2nd St, Atwood, KS 67730. A funeral service will be at 10:00 am on Friday June 27, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Atwood, KS. Interment will follow at Atwood Fairview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Atwood Second Century, The ACE Foundation USD 105 Buffalo Strong Fund, or the Humane Society and sent in care of Baalmann Mortuary, P.O.
