Jeanice Gayle Beagley better known as “Niecy” in her later years, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2025, at Gove County Medical Center in Quinter, Kansas. She was born in Oakley, Kansas on June 17, 1961, to Stanley Curtis Smith and Virginia Marie (McDowall) and was the oldest of their four children.
She graduated from Oakley High School in 1979. Shortly after high school she married the love of her life Eugene ‘Gene’ Beagley. This union created three girls and nearly 45 years of happy marriage.
Jeanice’s pride was her family and in her early married years she spent most of her time chasing the girls from events and then helping with whatever needed done on the farm. She had a few jobs throughout her lifetime though including sales at the Gentleman’s Shop, to helping deliver packages for UPS during busy holiday times, to working over a decade at Mitten’s Truckstop stocking shelves and helping where needed. But she was a constant advocate for her youngest daughter Kasey and retired from town jobs to take care of her full time once she wasn’t school eligible. Then came the grandkids and she began to undertake her new role as Niecy.
Niecy had traded in her purple Plainsmen attire to support this role as the boys became older and more involved as a full-blown Wheatland Thunderhawk Fan. She missed very few games and loved cheering on her grandsons in all their activities. Most recently though she had become a little more diverse again as the three granddaughters made their presence, currently ranging from age three to age one.
Jeanice was preceded in death by her grandparents, Gerald and Elnora McDowall and Earl and Edna Smith; father-in-law, Farrell Beagley; and nephew, Bradley Wiens.
Left to carry on is her husband Gene Beagley; children, Kayla (Justin) Goetz of Park, Kansas, Amber (Jacob) Light of Clearwater, Kansas, and Kasey Beagley of the home; grandchildren, Broady, Branton, Brock and Braislynn Goetz, and Enzley and Evey Light; parents, Stanley and Virginia Smith of Oakley, Kansas; siblings, Curtis (Stacy) Smith of Oakley, Kansas, Tamera (Thomas) Wiens of Oakley, Kansas, and Brandon (Sarah) Smith of Holcomb, Kansas;; mother-in-law, Norma Beagley and brother-in-law, Monte Beagley. As well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, niece, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephew that she truly adored.
Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2025, at Baalmann Mortuary, Oakley. A funeral service will be held to celebrate Jeanice’s life on Monday, May 5th at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Oakley, followed by a graveside service at the Oakley City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Special Olympics Kansas and sent in care of Baalmann Mortuary, PO Box 391, Colby, KS 67701. For information or condolences visit baalmannmortuary.com
