Katherine “Kathy” Surmeier passed away on October 14, 2026.
Born to C.B. and Rachael Olberding, Kathy spent most of her life in Colby, Kansas. She married Ed Golemboski in 1960, and together they raised three children: Mark, Mikki, and Rhonda.
Kathy held many roles throughout her life, but perhaps her favorite was bringing people together. Her home was a gathering place for family and friends, whether for holidays, a home-cooked meal, or simply a visit. She loved sharing stories and had an infectious laugh that those who knew her will never forget. Generous and affectionate, she also enjoyed reading and quilting, always sharing her favorite books with others.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed; daughter, Mikki; grandchildren, Tory and Austin; her parents; and siblings Lyle, Merlin, Elton, and Marie.
She is survived by her children, Mark (Jacque) and Rhonda; grandchildren Amber, Zachary (Katie), Joshua (Savannah), Taylor (Matt), and Mallory; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
While Kathy will be dearly missed, she will live on in the stories shared, the laughter around the table, and the many happy moments spent together. With love, a smile, and a little of her familiar “Such is life” spirit, those memories will be carried forward always.
Visitation is 3-5:00 p.m., with a Vigil at 5:00 p.m., Sunday, October 18, 2026, at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby.
