Lois Louise (Sears) Ferguson, 102, of Denver, CO, died May 31, 2024. She was born on September 28, 1921, to Charles and Mabel (Brewster) Sears, in Colby, KS, at their home.
After graduating from Colby High School, in 1938, Lois completed business school in Denver. She had worked at the Federal Land Bank, in Oakley, KS and then at the Stockyards in Denver, where she handled payments from buyers. She returned to Colby, where she opened a Sherwin Williams paint and wallpaper store. Upon returning to Denver, Lois worked in the home decor department of Daniels and Fisher.
In 1964, Lois married her high school classmate, David Ferguson. They lived in Denver where she continued a life of service and philanthropy. She completed the life goal of a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Denver University and served as a docent of Asian art at the Denver Art Museum for over 30 years. She rang bells with the Salvation Army. Lois made college educations possible for her nieces and nephews, the children and grandchildren of her three brothers.
Lois and Dave enjoyed traveling the world. After his passing, in 2010, Lois quit traveling, except her monthly trip from Denver to Colby. She was a member of the Lakewood Country Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, Eastern Star and First Presbyterian Church of Colby. She loved tending to her flowers and rose gardens in Colby and Denver.
She is survived by her stepson, Andrew Ferguson of Denver; nephew, John Sears; nieces, Debbie Kapp, Mary Ann Sears and Sue Stewart; numerous great nieces and nephews; and her dog Cimi.
Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2024, at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby. A graveside service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Beulah Cemetery, Colby.
