Lucy Josephine Pochop

Lucy Josephine (Holub) Pochop, second daughter of Florian William and Frances Rose (Chleborad) Holub, was born in rural Beardsley, Kansas, on June 11, 1919. She died on September 17, 2026, at the young age of 107 in Atwood, Kansas.

Lucy was a lifelong resident of Rawlins County, except for a short time during World War II where she worked for the Gates Rubber Company in Denver, Colorado. Lucy married Victor J. Pochop at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on June 24, 1952. Lucy and Victor began their married life on the F. W. Holub homestead. Together they raised their two children, Victor and Valyne, while continuing to farm the family homestead. Lucy was an active member of the Christian Mothers Altar Society at St. John Nepomucene and Sacred Heart Catholic Churches. The joys of her life were faith, family and farming.

Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, Victor J.; son, Victor F.; son-in-law, Alan Stolfus; sister, Frances Kompus; infant brother, Florian; parents and numerous in-laws, nephews, niece and cousins. She is survived by her older sister, Julia Kopriva; daughter, Valyne; daughter-in-law, Eva; grandchildren Emily (Lucas) Gorentz, Adam Stolfus and Julia Stolfus.

A graveside service will take place at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 21, 2026, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Atwood, followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Atwood.
