Lynelle Anne (Lohoefener) Fossum died of cancer surrounded by family in Oakley, KS on October 14th, 2026. She was born April 5, 1967, in Oberlin, Kansas to Jerry and Marcia (Ward) Lohoefener. Lyn grew up riding horses and motorcycles, helping her dad work cattle, and having adventures on the family farm north of town. She stayed a tried and true country girl.
Lyn started her nursing career working as a CNA during high school. She graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1985. As a young adult, Lyn traveled and lived in New York City where she worked as a nanny. She moved to Colby, KS to earn her degree and truly start her nursing career as an LPN.
Lyn and Bob Fossum married on June 26, 1993, and Lyn embraced becoming a mom right away with her signature joy and enthusiasm. After several years living in Phoenix, AZ, the family moved home to Oberlin, KS. Lyn went back to college at Fort Hays State University where she obtained her nursing BSN in 2004 and MSN family nurse practitioner and board certification in 2006. Lyn loved being a nurse, but her favorite part of life was family and friends. She loved visiting and laughing with her loved ones including her five children, and she especially loved being Gigi to her grandchildren.
She is survived by her parents Jerry and Marcia Lohoefener; siblings, Merlou Robinson (Bob Glazer), Amy Lamb (Dave), Seth Lohoefener; husband Bob Fossum; children, Bobby Fossum, Wendy Fossum (John White), Rory Fossum (Courtney), Libby Ahrens (Patrick), Landon Fossum; grandchildren, Olivia Ahrens, Eleanora, and Max Fossum; sisters-in-law, Debra Helm and Beverly Starman; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by grandparents, John H. And Marcella Ward, Harold and Irel Lohoefener, aunts and uncles, Bob and Sandy (Ward) Russell and John Ward II and Shirley.
