Margaret (Margie) Ellen Flanagin (Ziegelmeier)

January 5, 1942 – November 10, 2025

Margaret “Margie” Ellen Flanagin, 83, of Odon, Indiana, formerly of Gem, Kansas, passed peacefully from this life on November 10, 2025. Born January 5, 1942, in Colby, Kansas, to C. Ernest (Ernie) and Mary Elizabeth (Libby) Ziegelmeier, Margie was raised on the family farm near Gem, where she learned the value of hard work, family, and faith. She graduated from Gem High School in 1960 and married the love of her life, John Dale Flanagin, at Gem Baptist Church on June 26, 1960.

Together, Margie and John built a life centered around love, service, and family. She was a proud mother to Kimberly (Tom) Commerford, Randall (Brenda) Flanagin, Ralph Flanagin, and Krystil (Justin) Brown. Her joy overflowed in her role as “Grandma” to Noah, Johan, Daniel, Judah, Hayley, and Leslie. Margie’s commitment to her community ran deep. She was a lifelong member of Gem Baptist Church, served on the Gem City Council and Gem Cemetery Board, and was a devoted volunteer of the Gem Lion’s Club. Whether organizing pancake breakfasts, soup dinners, or hog roasts, she was always at the center—working tirelessly to ensure others were cared for and fed.

Margie will be remembered for her servant’s heart, her quick smile, and her boundless love for her family. Her greatest joy was gathering her children and grandchildren around her—those moments filled her heart and home with laughter and love.

She is survived by her husband, John; her children and grandchildren; her brother, Carl (Pat) Ziegelmeier; sisters Martha Rogge and Julie (Gary) Lindsay; sister-in-law Dorothy Mason (John) Woofter; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Mary Beth Flanagin, brother Raymond Dean Ziegelmeier, and brothers-in-law Vernon Flanagin, Milton Rogge, and James Mason.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 17, at 10:00 a.m. at Baalmann Mortuary in Colby, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Gem Cemetery, with visitation afterward at the Gem Community Building. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gem Cemetery or the Gem Lion’s Club and sent in care of Baalmann Mortuary PO Box 391 Colby KS 67701. Margie’s love, laughter, and faith will remain a light in the lives of all who knew her.
