Marvin Leo Warner

Marvin Leo Warner, 87, passed away surrounded by the love of family, leaving behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, and memories that will be shared for generations.

Marvin was born on July 12, 1938, in Cloud County, Kansas, to Clarence and Madeline (Crum) Warner. He attended several schools during his youth before graduating from Cimarron High School.

In 1956, Marvin married Sally Crockett, and together they welcomed two children, Victor and Beverly. Sally passed away in 1984.

A talented carpenter, Marvin enjoyed building with his hands and took great pride in constructing his own home in Garfield, Kansas. He owned and operated a cabinet shop in Kinsley before beginning a 28-year career at Larned State Hospital, where he worked as a Licensed Medical Technician until retirement.

As fate would have it, Marvin later met Doris Ann, the love of his life. Their romance moved quickly enough to become family legend, resulting in what they lovingly referred to as a "shotgun wedding." What began as a two-week whirlwind romance turned into a lifetime of love, laughter, and adventure. The two were married in Garfield, Kansas, August 31, 1985, and built a life filled with adventure, family, and plenty of laughter.

Together, Marvin and Doris enjoyed following their grandchildren from one sporting event to the next, proudly cheering from the stands. They loved traveling, even when those travels occasionally involved being stranded in a hurricane. Never ones to waste time, they simply turned the situation into a shopping opportunity, ordering countless items from QVC. Tonya still enjoys reminders of those purchases, especially the collection of fake gold chains that somehow seemed like a good idea at the time.

Marvin and Doris also spent countless hours playing cards and dominoes with family and friends. Whether gathered around a kitchen table or in the bleachers at a ball game, Marvin was happiest when surrounded by the people he loved.

To his grandchildren, Marvin was much more than Grandpa—he was their biggest fan. He rarely missed a sporting event, school play, dance recital, or tournament. You could always count on him to be there, proudly cheering them on.

One thing everyone agrees on: you never quite knew what was going to come out of Marvin's mouth next. He had a gift for keeping people on their toes and took particular delight in trying to embarrass his grandchildren whenever a new boyfriend or girlfriend was introduced. His quick wit, mischievous grin, and ornery sense of humor brought laughter wherever he went and will be deeply missed.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Madeline Warner; his first wife, Sally Warner; his brother, Ivan Warner; his sister, Betty Melton; his brother-in-law, Don Melton; his son, Victor Warner; his daughter, Beverly Trimmel; and his stepsons, Terry Spong and Rod Spong.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Doris Warner of Hoxie, Kansas; his stepdaughter, Tonya (Alan) Spresser; grandchildren, Jeremy Warner, Adrian Lumez, Theresa Lumez, Michelle Brohaugh, Michael Brohaugh, Brittney (Colton) Swenson, Gabi (Chase) Kennedy, Tanner Smith, Gannon Spresser, and Michael Spong; as well as numerous great-grandchildren, extended family members, and friends.

The past decade brought many challenges for Marvin and his family, but through it all he remained surrounded by the love of those closest to him. While his family will miss his laughter, stories, and unwavering support, they take comfort in knowing he is finally at peace and welcomed home into the arms of his Savior. Marvin's life was defined not by the years he lived, but by the love he gave, the laughter he shared, and the family he cherished.
