Mary Kay Krus

Mary Kathryn “Kay” Krus, 74, of Atwood, died December 29, 2025. She was born October 10, 1952, in Santa Monica, California, the youngest of four siblings.

At age 17, she graduated and moved to Huntington, CA, where she worked as a receptionist for a veterinarian, which began her great love of fur babies. Later, Kay found a great passion in working as a stage director for many years on off Broadway productions where she met great actors, like Ian McKllen.

Around 2005, Kay and her ex-husband Ron moved to Atwood, KS. Kay made Atwood her home for the next 20 years and had many friends and loved ones. There, she worked at My Place as a waitress and at Prairie Developmental Center at the group home, where she loved working with the individuals. Kay made many friends in Atwood. She cared for Dale Bundrant and his fur baby Mocha for many years.

Kay’s health began to decline, but she was able to visit stepson Talon and his children Sean and Ashlee. Richard Fanning became a great friend and caregiver, and they enjoyed spending time together. Tammy and her family, Courtney, Whitney, and Brittnay welcomed Kay into their hearts as best friend, sister and mom. The family and friends of Kay would like to thank Tammy and Richard for being there for her last days and hours. Kay’s wishes were met as she passed beside her best friend, Tammy and precious fur babies. You were very loved Kay!
