Robert Wayne Coleman, 85, of Colby died Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at Citizens Medical Center, Colby. He was born in Bassett, NE on July 1, 1940, to Robert G. and Viola (Wyant) Coleman. Bob married Shirley Schutte on November 27, 1961, and to this union three children were born. He worked for Kansas Nebraska Gas for 35 years and retired as foreman. He and Shirley also owned Coleman’s Cleaning and the Village Laundry Mat in Colby. Bob enjoyed old cars, going to garage sales, watching baseball and cheering on Nebraska. Bob and Shirley were big supporters of all the sports and activities in Colby, and you would often find them taking admission at various events. They also volunteered as Santa and Mrs. Claus for many years. Bob took great pleasure in growing giant pumpkins each year, with the largest becoming “The Chubby Pumpkin” that would take a special place by their front door to greet all who stopped by. His largest pumpkin grew to 215lbs. Above all, Bob loved spending time with family and supporting his grandchildren at all their events.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Shirley; daughter Candy Coleman; grandson Casey Quagliano; father and mother-in-law Otto and Dorthy Schutte; brothers-in-law, Archie Platt, Larry Schutte, Vincent Schutte, Alvin Schutte, Otto “Butch” Schutte and Claude “Perry” Condry and sisters-in-law, Daisy Dickenson, Linda Sadd, Leann Schutte, Susie Condry and Roberta Schutte.
