Rosemary Bergling

Rosemary Madeline Bergling, 93, of Atwood, died Saturday, January 20, 2024, at the Rawlins County Health Center in Atwood.

She was born in rural Adams County, Colorado on December 7,1930 to Robert and Madeline Eppinger. She was baptized and confirmed in the Emmaus Lutheran Church. She attended a one room rural grade school and graduated from Westminster High School in 1948.

As a young adult, Rosemary worked in the business office at the Gano-Downs Department Store in Denver. She enjoyed square dance competitions, and in 1950, her dance team won the National Amateur Championship in Texas.

While on a blind date, she met a handsome young man from Kansas, Verol Bergling. On December 2, 1951, they were married at the Emmaus Lutheran Church. They made their home on the family farm in southeastern Rawlins County, Kansas. She enjoyed being a farm wife and a mom of three children.

Gardening, cooking, baking, and sewing were a big part of her farm life. She made holidays and celebrations special for her family. Her creativity was evident at Christmas with her heritage-based holiday menus and handmade stockings filled with gifts for each family member.

Rosemary was a 4-H leader and involved with the Covenant Women at the Herndon Covenant Church. She also belonged to the Merry 12 Club, Hobby Club, and Union Extension Club. When Verol and Rosemary retired and moved to Atwood in 1993, she included additional hobbies of crafting, reading, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert, George, and infant brother, Richard; sister Margery Ashmore; grandson, Ryan Bergling; and son-in-law, Stuart Lindell.

She is survived by her husband Verol; children, Barbara Lindell, Bonnie (Roger) Leitner and Mark (Gail) Bergling; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
