William "Ed" Edward Hutton Jr

William Edward "Ed" Hutton, 71, of Brewster, Kansas, passed away November 9, 2024, in Colby, Kansas. Ed was born September 29, 1953, in Goodland, Kansas, to William Edward "Eddie" and Jean Hutton.

Ed graduated from Brewster High School in 1971 and went on to attend Colby Community College as well as Pittsburg State University. After college Ed worked in North Platte, Nebraska, and its surrounding areas. During this time, he worked and had various jobs; being a parts manager for NAPA Auto Parts stores, working for a wrecker service, and rebuilding racing engines, before returning to Brewster to farm with his dad.

Growing up Ed and his brother, Austin, spent many hours flagging for his dad with Hutton's Aerial Crop Spraying Service which was owned by their parents. Ed obtained his pilot's license and enjoyed flying. He also enjoyed collecting guns, Harley Davidson motorcycles, and always seemed to have a vehicle or motorcycle to restore or customize. Ed had been working hard on restoring an El Camino, which served as his most recent project.

Ed married Jana Berry on August 5, 2000, at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Page City, Kansas. A daughter, Emeline Jean Hutton, was born in November of 2001, and was followed by the birth of Benjamin Elias "Eli" Hutton in February of 2007. Ed enjoyed supporting his children's many activities, especially in aiding the kids with livestock chores and 4-H shows and events.

Followed by cancer treatment around 2011, Ed retired from farming and operated a small engine repair shop in Brewster. Ed served the Brewster community as both a member of the Brewster City Council and a volunteer fireman for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Jean Hutton. Ed is survived in death by his wife, Jana, of the home, son Eli, 17, of the home, daughter Emeline, 22, Chicago, Illinois, as well as his brother Austin (Pat) Hutton, Plano, Texas.

No services are planned at this time. Inurnment at the Brewster Cemetery will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to a library of the donor's choice to honor Ed's lifelong love of reading.
