William Leo Wieland

William “Bill” Leo Wieland, 94, of Colby passed away Saturday, June 28, 2025. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones. Bill was born in Colby on May 20, 1931, to H.L. and Katherine Ann Wieland. He was raised in Missouri by his aunt and uncle who he fondly called Ma and Dad Cohen until he was a teen. When he returned to Kansas he graduated school at St. John’s Military Academy in Hays. After graduation, Bill was drafted at the age of 21. He served two years in the Army and fought in the Korean War.

After returning from the war Bill met and married the love of his life, Thelma Ann Kreutzer, on April 4, 1956. They lived on their farm South of Levant until moving to Colby.

Bill was a lifelong farmer and was very active even as he got older. At the age of 88 he was still driving semi during harvest time and giving his great grandchildren rides.

Bill loved to have a good time with family and friends. He always enjoyed fishing and he and Thelma spent lots of weekends at the lake.

Bill and Thelma had three children, JoAnn, Jeanette, and Eugene

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Ann and son in law, Alan Nichols.

He is survived by his children, JoAnn Nichols, Jeanette Wieland, and Eugene Wieland; grandchildren, Stephanie and Brett Mead, Thomas and Hannah Wieland, Alicia Nichols and William Nichols; great grandchildren Hendrix, Zenni, Izadore, Nyxie, Dallas, Eva, and Olivia.

Visitation is 4-6:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby. The funeral service is at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby, with burial in Beulah Cemetery, Colby.
